Albert Peterson– President of Almaelou Music Corp and Conrad Birdie’s agent.  Overwrought by his obligations to Conrad, his promises to Rose and his Mother.  Strong singer, must move well.  Range: Bb – Gb

Rose Alvarez – Albert’s secretary and girlfriend.  She wants Albert to give up the music business and become an English Teacher like he once promised.  Her Spanish heritage is a source of frustration for Albert’s mother.  Must sing and dance very well.  Range: Gb – C

Kim Macafee – Beautiful young girl next door.  Anxious to grow up and be a mature woman.  Strong singer who moves well.  Range: G – Ab

Conrad Birdie – Elvis-esque teen heart throb.  Self-centered and pampered.  Must sing and dance very well.  Range Ab – Gb

Harry Macafee –  Kim and Randolph’s father.  Wishes kids were more like they were when he was young.  Range: C – E

Doris Macafee – Kim and Randolph’s mother.  Happy homemaker who can’t help but get caught up in the excitement of having a rock star in the house.  Range: Bb – F.

Randolph Macafee– Kim's younger brother.  Always trying to please his father.  Range: D – D.

Hugo Peabody –  Kim’s boyfriend.  Very jealous of Conrad Birdie.  

Ursula Merkle – Kim’s best friend and fellow Conrad Birdie fan.  Hyper-enthusiastic.

Mae Peterson – Albert’s overbearing mother.  Masterfully uses guilt and manipulation to keep her only son tethered to her.  Range: F – D.

Ensemble – Various other parents, townspeople, teens and children.  There are many smaller speaking and singing roles to be filled by members of the ensemble.  These include the High School nerd, a tap dancing secretary, a barber shop quartet and more.

Chronos Theatre Group is seeking submissions for "Shakuntala" by Kalidasa.  Considered India's finest work of drama, it is rich with vivid characters and loads of charm.  Performances are April 16/17 and 23/24/25 at Swedenborg Hall, 1531 Tyler Avenue, San Diego 92103.  There is a stipend.

We are seeking actors of any ethnicity who can play multiple characters and have good movement skills.  In particular, we are casting:

1 male 30 - 50 (good comedic skills and character ability)
1 male 50 - 65 (dignified, fatherly; experience in the classics a plus)
1 female 20 - 35 (ethnic dance background and character ability a plus)

Open Auditions Announced for Senior Follies

San Diego – CCT Musical Theater will hold open auditions for its 4th annual Senior Follies March 13 - 14 at the CCT rehearsal warehouse located at 1545 Pioneer Way in El Cajon. To audition for High School Reunion singers, dancers and actors who will be at least 55 years of age by June 24, 2010 should call 619-588-0206 or 800-696-1929 for an audition appointment. This year’s Senior Follies takes you on an exciting trip back to your High School reunion.

All roles are open. Each person should be prepared to perform an accompanied, one-minute vocal audition. An accompanist will be provided. Bring sheet music or a cued accompaniment tape and a current photo, which cannot be returned.

Vocal auditions are Friday, March 12th from 6pm – 9pm with movement auditions following each group of ten vocal auditions. Tap auditions are Saturday, March 13th at 10am and the auditions for showgirls/kickline are on Saturday at 11:15am.Wear dance shoes and comfortable clothes. (Vocal auditions not required for those seeking dance only roles.) All auditions are at the CCT rehearsal warehouse located at 1545 Pioneer Way (between Fletcher Parkway and Bradley) in El Cajon.

Showcase your specialty skill. Do you play the harmonica, juggle, ride a unicycle, fiddle, or do gymnastics? We are looking for unique talent. 18 dancers with strong tap and clogging skills are needed for the kick line and seven lovely women are needed for showgirls (must be a minimum of 5’6 tall and able to wear a headdress weighing up to seven pounds and a backpack weight up to 15 pounds. Notice: A Midsummer Night’s Dream - A Victorian Court turns upside-down — literally — when forbidden lovers escape into the forest and a jilted fiancé follows in hot pursuit. Artistic Director Christopher Ashley brings his unique, gravity-defying vision to this classic play that features puppetry and an onstage orchestra performing original music as well as Mendelssohn's beloved score.

Type of Actors: Male & Female Equity (AEA) or non-Equity, LOCAL (must live or have housing within 50 miles of La Jolla). Ability to play a musical instrument or carry a tune or acrobatic/circus skills a plus (but, not necessary to be cast). All ethnicities encouraged to audition.

Arts off broadway is looking for strong singers of all ethnicities who have great comedic timing and character acting ability.  KING ARTHUR’S QUEST

Missoula Children’s Theatre’s 11th Annual Residency 

Poway, CA (January 20, 2010) Poway Center for the Performing Arts welcomes the return of the world-renowned touring theatre company Missoula Children’s Theatre in residency in at PCPA  March 1-6.  They will produce the musical King Arthur’s Quest. 

Auditions for KING ARTHUR’S QUEST will be held on Monday, March 1 at 4pm at Poway Center for the Performing Arts, 15498 Espola Road, Poway CA 92064Children grades K-12 are invited to audition- no advance preparation is necessary.   

Students wishing to audition must arrive by the scheduled starting time and stay for the entire two-hour session. The first rehearsal begins approximately 15-30 minutes after the audition. Approximately 50-60 local students will be cast to appear in the show and will spend the week working with the MCT Tour Actor/Director. There is no guarantee that everyone who auditions will be cast in the play.  

Rehearsals will be conducted every day beginning 4pm. The actual rehearsal schedule will be given on the first day of auditions. Rehearsals will take place at Poway Center for the Performing Arts. Although not all cast members will be needed at every session, those auditioning must have a clear schedule for the entire week and if selected, be able to attend all rehearsals required for their role. A detailed rehearsal schedule will be distributed at the conclusion of the audition. Cast members scheduled for the full 4½ hours of rehearsal will be asked to bring a sack lunch, dinner or snack.  

The finished performance of King Arthur’s Quest will be held on Saturday, March 6 at 3 and 7 pm at Poway Center for the Performing Arts.  The students in the cast will be called for dress rehearsal before the performance that day. All those cast must be available for all scheduled performances.

Play description: In this classic fairy tale, poor Cinderella is endlessly abused by her wicked stepmother and stepsisters and not allowed to attend the Royal Ball. With the help from her Fairy Godmother, Cinderella goes to the ball, meets the Prince, falls in love and lives happily ever after. Originally presented on television in 1957 starring Julie Andrews. As adapted for the stage, with great warmth and more than a touch of hilarity, the hearts of children and adults alike still soar when the slipper fits.

Cast List and Breakdown: All roles open.
Cinderella (18-30) Soprano. A young woman, shy, meek & obedient. Wishes for the impossible.
The Fairy Godmother (30-60) Mezzo/Soprano. Lovely and energetic. Extremely pragmatic and no-nonsense.
Stepmother (40-60) A large, frightening-looking woman. (May cast a male) She has but one purpose, which is to marry off her horrible daughters.
Joy (20-35) Mezzo/Soprano. Stepsister to Cinderella - goofy, a fatuous laugh and no intelligence whatsoever
Portia (20-35) Mezzo/Soprano. Stepsister to Cinderella - a sourpuss with little intelligence.
Queen (40-65) Mezzo/Soprano. Mother to the prince - serious yet affectionate. Elegant.
King (40-65) Baritone. Father to the prince - a fuddy-duddy. A bit of a child.
Prince Charming (18–30) Baritone. A handsome, debonair young man. Confident, lonely and looking for an equal.
Hark (18-40) Tenor. The prince’s royal herald. Very formal and proper—but easily side tracked.
Chef and Steward: (18-50) Baritones. A Mutt and Jeff, Laurel and Hardy team.

CYT Announces Winter Theater Arts Classes San Diego

Christian Youth Theater (CYT), San Diego’s largest after school arts program for children, will begin its Winter 2010 session offering classes in seven locations in the San Diego region and one in Riverside County. 

Children ages 4-18 may register for a ten-week term of classes ranging from basic singing, dancing and acting to a variety of advanced theater skills training courses. Registrations are accepted by phone (with credit card) by calling 619-588-0206 or 800-696-1929 Monday-Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. They may be mailed to CYT at 1545 Pioneer Way, El Cajon, CA 92020. Registrations are also accepted online at www.cytsandiego.org and on the first class day through the third week of class. CYT theater arts classes may be the answer for parents looking for an activity to involve the entire family. 

In addition to teaching theater skills and offering performance opportunities, students enrolled in CYT gain confidence and self-esteem. CYT’s Production Teams involve families who demonstrate a high level of commitment to CYT’s philosophy of parents participating with their children in fun and wholesome theater activities. CYT classes are held once a week after school for ten weeks. Tuition is $195 ($95 for one-hour Wiggles class) with special sibling discounts available. We offer a New Student price of $125. Financial assistance is also available. Enrolled students ages 8-18 are eligible to audition for one of the six fully-staged musicals to be produced this session. Audition information is available at the time of registration. Students must be registered for classes in order to audition.

La Mesa classes serve communities of La Mesa, Del Cerro, Allied Gardens, and College Area. Classes are held Mondays, 4:30-6:30 p.m. at Del Cerro Baptist Church: 5512 Pennsylvania Lane, La Mesa 91942. 

North County Coastal classes serve communities of Solana Beach, Del Mar, Rancho Santa Fe, Cardiff, Encinitas, and Carmel Valley. Classes are held Thursdays, from 4:30-6:30 p.m. at North Coast Presbyterian Church: 1831 South El Camino Real, Encinitas 92024. 

North County Inland classes serve communities of Escondido, Poway, Ramona, Rancho Bernardo, San Marcos, and Rancho Penasquitos. Classes are held Tuesdays, 4-6 p.m. at Green Valley Church, 11501 Rancho Bernardo Road, Rancho Bernardo 92128. 

San Diego Central classes serve communities of San Diego, Clairemont, Pacific Beach, Tierrasanta, Mira Mesa, Allied Gardens, Scripps Ranch, and La Jolla. Classes are held Thursdays, either 4:30-6:30 p.m. or 6:45-8:45 p.m. at Torrey Pines Christian Church: 8320 La Jolla Scenic Dr N, La Jolla 92037. 

San Diego East County classes serve communities of El Cajon, Spring Valley, Santee, Lakeside, and Alpine. Classes are held Tuesdays, 4:30-6:30 p.m. at Lakeside Middle School: 11833 Woodside Ave., Lakeside 92040. 

South County classes serve communities of Chula Vista, Bonita, Eastlake, Coronado, National City, and East San Diego. Classes are held Thursdays, 5-7 p.m. at Chula Vista Community Church: 271 East J Street, Chula Vista 91910. 

Tri City classes serve communities of Vista, Carlsbad, and Oceanside. Classes are held Tuesdays, 4-6 p.m. or 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Carlsbad Community Church: 3175 Harding Street, Carlsbad 92008. 

Temecula Valley classes serve communities of Temecula Valley, Murrieta, Fallbrook, Lake Elsinor, Menifee, and Wildomar. Classes are held Tuesdays, 4:30-6:30 p.m. at Rancho Community Church: 31300 Rancho Community Way, Temecula 92592. 

Class offerings teach basic theater skills of voice and singing, drama and dance, plus a variety of specialty classes such as Musical Theater, Theater Gymnastics, Intermediate and Advanced Dance, Theater Stunts and Combat, and Audition Workshop. 

"Our Gang”, a beginning theater class for students ages 6 to 7, introduces younger students to basic theater fundamentals. 

Our “Wiggles” class is for ages 4 to 5. This class introduces the preschoolers to many aspects of theater as they learn to feel comfortable getting up in front of people. 

Each class prepares a showcase highlighting what they’ve learned which is presented in a stage setting at the end of the term. Classes are taught by professional teachers and/or experienced performers dedicated to building confidence and self-esteem in students. 

During the 10-week term six fully staged musical productions are produced, presenting 10-12 performances for school groups and public audiences. 

All currently enrolled students ages 8-18 may audition for any one of the six musicals, which are presented near the end of the term in rented theater facilities, giving students an authentic theatrical experience. Parental involvement is essential and an important part of the success of the children's productions. 

Shows scheduled for February and March are Pocahontas at the Fallbrook High School Bob Burton Center, Alice Jr at the Escondido Charter High School American Spirit Theater, The Little Mermaid at the Lakeside Middle School auditorium (location subject to change), Sleeping Beauty at the Pacific Beach Middle School Auditorium, Willy Wonka at the Star Theater, and Narnia at Mater Dei Catholic High School.
